Cultural excursions to various touristic places in Ecuador are an important enriching experience for the international students that are studying in CEDEI’s International Programs Department.
The Fall Semester group will visit Gualaceo and Chordeleg this weekend, which are towns located close to Cuenca in the province of Azuay. In these places the foreign students will be able to enjoy the beautiful natural landscapes and the skills of local artisans.
The cultural excursion will include visits to jewelry stores in Chordeleg, which are characterized by selling fine works of gold and silver that are made using a technique called filigree. Here they will also see fine craftworks made out of paja de toquilla.
In addition, the students will walk through Gualaceo’s narrow streets where they will see beautiful adobe houses and experience its warm climate both of which make the city attractive and inviting. Here the students will be able to observe stores that sell many types of leather and synthetic shoes. It is important not to forget the gastronomy because the students will visit the market where they will be able to try the delicious Hornado, Tortillas con Morocho and other typical foods from this region.
Additionally, during this week the scheduled activities for the Fall Semester program include a visit the Pumapungo museum, a lecture about current politics in Latin-America and their dance classes.
