The main goal for the foreign students that are participating in a Comparative Higher Education Seminar at CEDEI is to learn about Ecuador’s higher education system. The students of this group are from the University of Wisconsin Whitewater (USA) and arrived to Ecuador on March 17th.  

The group’s stay will not be long because it is part of an 8 day seminar that the International Programs Department has organized and that includes visits to various higher education centers of Ecuador. These visits are help the students be able to make comparisons between the private and public systems and to learn about the latest reforms that have been made to higher education. 

The groups schedule starts with a visit the Universidad de Investigación de Tecnología Experimental Yachay, which is a public university that is dedicated to the sciences and innovation.   The university is located in the city of learning Yachay, in the county San Miguel de Urcuquí of the province Imbabura, which is located in the northern mountains of Ecuador.

Complementing this visit, the students will visit the Secretaría de Educación Superior, Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación (SENESCYT). Here the students will have the opportunity to tour this public institution, which is located in Azogues, the capital of Cañar Province.

Included in this interesting itinerary is a visit to the Universidad de Cuenca and the Universidad Del Azuay.  The visits will be complemented by a lecture about “The Reforms to Higher Education”, which will allow the students to reflect and be up to date about the reality and functions of higher education in Ecuador.
